Zoo Photography

Posted by: stacieeden on: April 10, 2009

Yesterday I went on a field trip to the Toronto Zoo for my photography class. Since the assignment the prof wanted us to do only needed 9 final images, I wanted to share some of my other favorite ones here, since I took almost 600 pictures!

And that is the last assignment for photography I believe! If you happen to be looking to buy a digital SLR camera, I’ll probably be selling mine soon (the same one used to take all of the above photos), since I only really needed it for this course. :P I’ll make another post about that later though, when I figure out how much I want to sell it for haha.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday this weekend!

Duck and Cover!

I don’t usually tend to go on about games, but I noticed today while looking at the Best Buy flyer that one of the most FUN and ADDICTING game in DS history is now available in english!

rhythm_heaven_box_art

I found this game in japanese sometime last year and it’s seriously so much fun! It’s just a bunch of little rhythm games (do stuff with the stylus according to a beat pretty much) but still, after a while you’ll find yourself addicted so I recommend it for anyone! I’m looking forward to playing it in english so maybe I won’t press the wrong button and delete my save file after almost finishing the game again, haha.

Otherwise, I published a few of my posts that I wrote a long time ago and scheduled to post… a really long time ago. Lol oops. I guess it doesn’t work the same way as Smackjeeves? Speaking of which, I haven’t updated Windmill in over a month and a half… It’s not really that I don’t want to, I am just SO overwhelmed with schoolwork currently. Sigh. End of the semester is in sight however!

Right now I’m working on stuff like this:

detonate1

(I guess you can’t full-view but the half-tone is all little d’s 8D)

For a book I’m making in Typography, based on the letter D. But we also had to give it an overall theme, so for D, we decided on the 1960s haha. So, we have everything relating to D’s and 60’s from cheesy bright colours, pop art, nuclear war, communism, cross-dressing J. Edgar hoover, and a psychedelic 2 page spread about LSD that I’m trying to figure out how to make in 3D to make it extra trippy! And, somehow yellow submarine got in there, but I’m drawing a blank on how to relate it to D… I was thinking of “Across the Univers” instead, since Univers is our main 60’s font, but still, what does it have to do with D? D: If anyone is an expert in 60’s music, let me know if there’s anything good that has a lot of D’s in it haha. The person that I’m working on this with is doing a music page on the Doors, with a picture of half of a record, since it looks like a D. (My idea also btw!! XD) and I was going to do Yellow Submarine with a picture of a submarine made up of D’s… but gyah. Maybe Bob Dylan? Does he have any good songs from the 60’s that start with D?!

Bah, anyway! Have to go grocery shopping, I only meant to be on here for a few seconds and now I’m seeing spots haha.

Sex and violence and it’s relation to the media

Posted by: stacieeden on: April 5, 2009

Someday, I’d like to do a totally uncharacteristic, controversially themed comic in a style I’ve never tried before, and under a fake name. I have the idea, and most of the storyline planned out, and also the type of style I’d like to work with, almost everything. It saddens me that I’ll probably never have the time to do it, and no one would ever know that it was really me for sure. ;o;

But the story won’t be just about the issue, it will be about a struggling comic artist (who would be my fake penname) making the comic, and then stuff would happen in their life because they made this comic, like they would get in trouble because of it’s controversy, and in the end? No one would change. They would still be the same shitty people they were at the beginning despite the comic artist’s plead through his comic to persuade them to change thier thinking from the brainwashed masses which was why he made it in the first place. He would probably kill himself because of this.

…It would be a rather depressing story I guess. But awesome because I could change the art style when it was showing the artist in the story’s art, vs. the parts where it was showing his real life situation.

He would have a really grungy, sketchy style with bold, black brushpen inking for the panel outlines and especially emotional parts of the comic, and he would use lots of cross hatching and have paint splatters everywhere. There would be parts coloured in inkwash/watercolour too.

The rest of the comic, which would be his life in a third person narrative, would be a more western comic style. It would be a lot more boring than his art, flat colours and all that. Maybe some old school Lichtenstein-ish halftones.

Ah, life. You’re always in the way. Now I really wanna make this comic…

I love this hoodie so damn much: http://www.vivcore.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=VC&Product_Code=CS02-001&Category_Code=CV

I want the black and red one!! They never have the right size though, and they’re a little expensive. Maybe I can try to make one someday, although it wouldn’t be good for winter, imagine trying to stuff those sleeves into your coat haha.

Scheme a scheme

Boo Hoo Bird Changed My Life

Looking through my e-mails today, specifically at stuff coming up at the AGO. A children’s book writer/illustrator was one of the things they had advertised. It had a pictue of the cover of one of his books which I now must get:

Birds and alliteration and cute pictures! Many of my favorite things rolled into one! :D How could you go wrong with that combination?! And, thanks to google, I found the author’s blog: http://www.jeremytankard.com//blog.html

Reading his bio, he was a graphic designer who switched to illustration… maybe… someday even I could do something like that?! I’m filled with renewed hope!! Thanks, kid’s book! 8D

H2O

Posted by: stacieeden on: March 3, 2009

Today, my brainwashed-to-be-design-obsessed self saw the most awesome bottle…! Observe!

icelandwater

It was a water bottle for fancy water from Iceland, and hmm, the way the words were formed was so awesome. I should have bought this bottle, fuck my life. :( Just look at the damned thing!! It fucking says H2O but sideways, the H is the I from glacial, and the 2 is the N from Iceland!

…Now I’ll forever live with regret!

Return

Posted by: stacieeden on: March 3, 2009

Forever I searched for a good tutorial on how to make a layout myself (WordPress is the most confusing thing in the world to me right now) but I found a good site with premade ones that are better than anything I could ever do, so I’ve just spend a shameful amount of time looking at all 101 pages of layouts haha. At least I’ve picked out some good ones? Though I am slightly ashamed since I am both a designer and artist and I should be capable of making it myself. Someday, maybe? Well, this Analog Blog can seemingly never die. This time I transfrerred everything over from Blogspot to WordPress, because I thought I could add that wonderful custom layout.

shinjidouche

WELL. As it TURNS OUT, after a wasted day of trying to set it up, that there are TWO kinds of WordPress: The kind like this, and the kind which you need to upload to your own hosting. That kind, it seems, is the onlt kind that you can use those lustfully fancy layouts with. :( I are sad… I am bringing this blog back since my hosting at Dreamhost is running out in a few months and I don’t intend to renew it. However! I have decided not to let it stop me, and have settled for this less than satisfactory unoriginal, plain one.  It will do!

SO, to change the topic, I Googled my name today, and embarassingly, the first result that comes up: An Elfwood account from when I was 18! What the fuck, and the profile goes on about my love for celery of all things… I do NOT remember writing any of that. Damn you, high school self! I thought we killed and buried all remnants of you!! D:< But hell, in my defense that site was popular back in the day and I loved fantasy things because of Lord of the Rings, lmao. It was a bitch to get the password to log in and delete it since I had no idea what it was. It sent it to an old email I no longer have which I had to recreate in order for the password to be sent to it! Well, it is deleted now and all I can hope is that it will dissapear from the Google search results soon…!
